Frequently Asked Questions about Montserrat Tickets

Everything you need to know before your trip from Barcelona to Montserrat.

There are two main tickets: The Trans Montserrat Card (Montserrat Mountain Card) includes round-trip train travel from Barcelona (Plaça Espanya) as well as the rack railway, entrance to the monastery, access to the Basilica, to the Black Madonna (with time slot), to the Montserrat Museum and to the Audiovisual Room.

The Tot Montserrat Card additionally includes a metro ticket, choice between rack railway and cable car, unlimited use of the Sant Joan and Santa Cova funiculars as well as a meal in the self-service restaurant on Montserrat. Not included are guided tours and visits to the boys' choir (Escolania).

The tickets are valid for the selected travel date. With the Trans Montserrat Card, validate your ticket between 08:00 and 13:00 at the FGC counter at Plaça d'Espanya. The train ticket is flexible in time – only the time slot for the Black Madonna is fixed.

With the Tot Montserrat Card, the ticket is also valid for the selected day. Please note that collection is possible until the end of the current calendar year.

With the Trans Montserrat Card, validate your smartphone voucher directly at the FGC ticket counter at Plaça d'Espanya.

With the Tot Montserrat Card, exchange your voucher for the physical card at one of the following collection points: Tourist Information at Plaça Catalunya (daily 08:30–20:30), at El Prat Airport (Terminals T1, T2 and Metro L9, daily 08:30–20:30) or at Plaça Espanya (daily 08:30–14:30). Without the physical card, the included services cannot be used.

You will receive a full refund if you choose a refundable ticket when booking and cancel by 23:59 on the day before your visit. With the Tot Montserrat Card, no refund is possible after exchanging the voucher for the physical card.

Yes. The rack railway (Cremallera) travels through the mountain landscape up to the monastery – a leisurely and particularly scenic option. The cable car (Aeri) glides over the Llobregat River valley in about five minutes with up to 45% gradient – spectacular, but only for those with no fear of heights. The Trans Montserrat Card includes the rack railway, with the Tot Montserrat Card you have the choice between both.

The train stations, rack railway and funiculars are accessible for people with reduced mobility. The monastery itself is also barrier-free accessible. Children under 4 travel free. Please note: Tank tops, shorts and sandals are not permitted in the monastery. Luggage over 40 × 30 cm is not allowed, and there are no lockers on site.
